I am Krista Watts, a student at Belmont university studying architecture. Growing up in rural Tennessee, I saw firsthand how inefficent city designs can be detrimental to everyday life, such as in the case with cars and the depednency on them for accessibility to essential needs, not even taking into consideration the increase in Carbon Dioxide as a result. I am a problem solver and my interest in architecture is my way of solving these problems.
City, Urban, and Interior Design are my specific areas of passion, specifically the sustainability aspect of these categories. My experience ranges from city planning to interior structuring. I am looking to to advance my education into a more science based architectural direciton, respecting nature while making humans the center of focus in my designs. I want to focus on upcoming environmentally safe design features for sustainable development, such as atmospheric water generation, which would make it safer for residents and the ecosystem in case of a drought; I want to find the integration between beauty and sustainability and spearhead that into my designs. A perfect example of this would be photovoltaic cells which can be made into rooftop designs embodying the nature of what I want to achieve.
Funky shapes, colors, and ideas are generated through inspiration around architects and designers,. Architectural sculpture David Henderson and Architect Odile Decq and Frank Lloyd Wright are all heavy influence on my design. Modern Architecture has rigid and static design and these individuals think outside of the box and accomplish their goals with this in mind. Architecture should be functional and beautiful without cutting any corners. My work values functionality and aesthetic equally resulting in a design worth living in. My personal inspiration is not motivated from other architects, but rather nature itself. Many of my designs are born from a clay based mixture to give the design an earthy feel, such as her model completed at Belmont university called “The Clay House”, which embodies all of the ideas mentioned above. As seen in the portfolio section.
